Internationally recognized lectures and workshops are presented in Detmold for specific topics. You will get familiar with a network of professionals in the field of Facades technology, and together with German and other international students you will get connected with people from different backgrounds and cultures.

You will work in small groups of students and will have your own classroom that you may use for individual or group work when there are no lectures.

The educational resources at the University are of the highest quality. Students will benefit from special facilities and technologies in the field of Design and Construction. The school is also equipped with a broad range of software applications for 3D simulation of structural and technological processes as well as CAD-CAM and digital fabrication technologies.

Selected Technologies

CNC-milling machine

3 axis CNC milling machine for board material processing

cnc-fräse

Wissner WITEC 15 Economic

  • Working range: 1500 mm x 1250 mm
  • Portal height: 250 mm
  • Location: joinery, building 2, room 2141
  • CAD-data checking and preprocessing: Dipl.-Ing. Guido Brand, field of teaching: CAD
  • Milling machine operation: Dipl.-Ing. Ingmar Rohlf, Model building workshop

Laser Cutter

CO2 laser for thin board and film material processing

Skylaser 9060

Skylaser 9060

  • Working range: 945 mm x 545 mm
  • Location: 2nd floor building 4, room 4213
  • CAD-data checking and preprocessing: Dipl.-Ing. Guido Brand

The multifunction laser is suited for cutting and engraving of many non-metallic materials like acrylic glass, solid wood and wood-based materials, paper, cardboard, plastics, foams and textiles.

3D-Printer

FDM-system for production of high-quality ABS plastic models

Dimension SST 768

Dimension SST 768

  • Working range: 200 mm x 200 mm x 300 mm
  • Minimal wall thickness: 1 mm
  • Layer thickness: 0.24 mm
  • with the help of an attached clean station the supporting material can be dissolved automatically
  • Location: 2nd floor building 4, room 4213
  • Contact: Dipl.-Ing. David Lemberski

The FDM-technique is a real additive process in which the material is being applied layer-by-layer on a platform – analogous to the SLS-process – and not hardened or glued. After being pushed out of the extruder (melt nozzle) the building material hardens on top of the subjacent layer.

Powerwall

stereoscopic projection

stereoscopic projection

  • Location: 2nd floor building 4, room 4212
  • Contact: Dipl.-Ing. Guido Brand

The Powerwall at Detmolder Schule für Architektur und Innenarchitektur offers an immersive stereoscopic projection thus allowing to discuss problems intuitively and interactive or to present design results. This ‘real’, three-dimensional and interactive imaging technique can enable the communication between designer and client to be clearer and easier to understand. Designs, ideas and processes became intelligible and easier to control and correct for others as for themselves.

The Detmold School of Architecture and Interior Architecture is a department of the University of Applied Sciences Ostwestfalen-Lippe. It benefits of a 120-year-old design-tradition. From chair to town: with architecture, interior architecture, urban planning, the unique masters of international façade design and construction, and computational design and construction the school offers the whole variety of architectural education. The faculty of interior design is the largest in Germany. Major aspects of the academic education are interdisciplinarity, creative dynamics, technical innovation and sustainability.

The teaching staff provides deep knowledge in the fields of design, construction, technique, organization, scenography, art, social science and communication. Two mutually complementary main focus of research currently exist in the area of architecture, interior design and civil engineering at the University of Applied Sciences: the ConstructionLab and the PerceptionLab. While the PerceptionLab makes the user the focal point of its research (human centred design), the ConstructionLab complements this by a product-oriented approach (product centred design) which, among others, covers the area of prototype construction and testing technology.

The open and transparent arrangement of the school`s buildings – all designed by students – leads to various meetings and promotes a creative atmosphere on the campus. The combination of the courses of study provides a variety which shapes the character of the Detmold School.
